Nearly 30,000 Pounds of Electronics Recycled at Fourth Annual “ecyclebflo” Event Hosted by Shatter I.T. and Sunnking

Over the Last Four Years, Nearly 100,000 Pounds of Material Collected;
$1,000 Donation Made to Educational Technology Foundation of WNY

Buffalo, NY (July 17, 2012) – Shatter I.T. and Sunnking Electronics, in partnership with six other local Buffalo businesses – EMCS, Channel 7, WBEN, Ozone Design, Business First, and Rich’s – hosted the fourth annual “ecyclebflo” event in Lafayette Square on Tuesday, June 26. Area residents and businesses brought 29,342 pounds of old or unwanted electronics for responsible recycling. A $1,000 donation was made to the Educational Technology Foundation of WNY, whose efforts are aimed at increasing the access and equity of technology in education, especially to under-served populations.

In addition to the electronics recycling, participants were given the opportunity to smash old printers and copiers with a sledgehammer in the “Shatter Zone” along with the Sabretooth and Buster Bison.

“This annual event gives downtown businesses a convenient way to properly recycle their obsolete electronics. In its first four years, ecyclebflo has collected – and responsibly recycled – nearly 100,000 pounds of old electronics. Together with our partners, we are discussing a number of ways we can further enhance the ecyclebflo event in 2013 to reach even more businesses and collect even more waste,” said Peter Ronca, Shatter’s President and Chief Executive Officer.

“ecyclebflo proved to be a success again this year.  It is a fun event to be a part of and great to see that a group of great businesses could get together once again to benefit the Educational Technology Foundation of WNY. We look forward to expanding this program in the future to help increase the availability of technology in schools and local communities.”

Smart Phones: A Growing Concern

By: Chris Marshall
Smart phones are becoming more powerful with every new feature that is released. This is not only attractive to businesses, but also younger generations. As we incorporate smart phones with more sensitive information, it creates a much greater vulnerability to information theft. Securing that sensitive information is often not considered, especially with younger smart phone users. The possibility that your corporate email, personal pictures, or other personal information could easily be stolen greatly increases if you have not taken measures to enhance your smart phone integrity. Regardless of make, iPhone, Android, and even BlackBerry are susceptible to attacks that, unaddressed, could result in the theft of money, information, and even identity.

Shatter I.T.'s SnapShot Service

SnapShot

Have you ever tried to recover from a disaster? Shatter's SnapShot service can restore your system in minutes.
  • Fast — Downtime will usually exceed eight hours before a machine can be fully recovered. With SnapShot, your system can be up and running with the push of a button.
  • Up To Date — With most disaster recovery services, retained data is outdated — 24 hours old is the norm. Shatter takes a snapshot of your data every 15 minutes, 24/7, so it's always current.
  • Reliable — Just running backups will not help you recover from a disaster. Backup tapes sitting on the desk will not save your business. SnapShot will!
  • Cutting Edge — SnapShot employs virtualization technology, both onsite and offsite, allowing unbroken continuity and instantaneous recovery of your business if your systems fail for any reason.
  • Cost—Effective — There are minimal up-front costs, low bandwidth options, and encrypted VPN's for secure data transfers, all configured by Shatter's Engineers.

The Importance of Documentation

The Importance of Documentation
By: Chris Cardone

Documentation is organization. It’s labeling your assets. It’s tracking programming changes. It’s a series of steps you take to avert or correct a problem. But it’s so much more than just these examples. It’s probably the most overlooked part of any information technology company’s activities, but arguably the most important.

Write It Down!
What should you write down? What shouldn’t you write down? Draw up a network diagram. Make a list of all your computer assets, both physical and digital. Write down important contact information, both for clients and for personnel. Draft a standard operating procedure (SOP) for common tasks, and so on…
